What is sex therapy?
Sex therapy is simply talk therapy with a therapist who has specialized training in human sexuality. We might talk about intimacy, desire, communication, sexual functioning, problematic sexual behaviors, shame, relationships, or anything else that's affecting your sexual well-being. Like any other therapy, our work is collaborative, personalized, and focused on your goals.
Will I be asked to do sexual activities in session?
No. Sex therapy does **not** involve any sexual activity or physical contact between therapist and client. Sessions consist of conversation, education, skill-building, and sometimes exercises or homework to practice outside of session if they're appropriate for your goals.
Do you see individuals?
Absolutely! Many of my clients come on their own to work through concerns related to sexuality, relationships, identity, intimacy, or personal growth.
Do you work with couples?
Yes. I work with couples navigating everything from communication and conflict to desire differences, intimacy concerns, infidelity, and rebuilding connection.
Can I come without my partner?
Yes. While couples therapy can be incredibly helpful, meaningful change can also happen when one person begins the work. If your partner isn't ready or isn't interested in therapy, you're still welcome here.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is extremely important to me. What we discuss in therapy is confidential, with a few legal and ethical exceptions that we'll review together during your first appointment.
Do you work with religious clients?
Yes. I enjoy working with clients from a variety of faith backgrounds. Whether your faith is an important part of your life, you're wrestling with questions about it, or you're navigating religious deconstruction, my goal is to help you explore your values without judgment.
Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients?
Absolutely. I strive to provide an affirming, inclusive space where clients of all sexual orientations, gender identities, relationship structures, and backgrounds feel seen, respected, and supported.
Do you treat sex/porn addiction?
I work with individuals who feel their sexual behaviors have become difficult to control or are causing distress in their lives or relationships. My approach is evidence-based, nonjudgmental, and individualized. Rather than focusing on labels, we'll work together to understand what's driving the behavior and develop healthier, more values-consistent patterns moving forward.
What if I'm embarrassed?
Then you're probably in good company.
Almost everyone walks into their first sex therapy appointment wondering how they're going to say certain words out loud. I promise you, there's very little you could tell me that would surprise or shock me. My job isn't to judge you. It's to help you make sense of your experience and move toward the life and relationships you want.
